Hiking and Biking
This park includes close to 9 miles of trails. One trail, the Onion Creek Hike and Bike Trail, offers a hard surface and is great for strollers and road bikes. It’s the perfect option for families and those who might have limited mobility. The Rock Shelter Trail leads you to see where the park’s earliest visitors parked. Fishing and Swimming
This is the perfect park for beginner anglers. Go fishing in Onion or Williamson creeks. You do not need a license to fish from shore in a Texas state park. While fishing you may catch largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, white bass, and sunfish.
These tips are from the park’s fishing tip sheet:
- For safety for you and a quick release of fish, mash down the barb of the hook with pliers.
- Quickly play and release fish as soon as possible (take photos quickly).
- Remove hook with pliers or cut line if the hook has been swallowed.
- Gently place fish back into water.
- Revive fish by holding upright in water and facing it into the current, gently forcing water through gills.
- If you don’t intend to eat the fish, NEVER place it on a stringer.
