Texas is a big State. It’s basically an RVers dream destination, since there’s so many attractions and so much to see in our great State. We’ve got it all. Mountains, hills, lakes, beaches, plains, and plenty of land to go round. I don’t think you’d ever run out of things to see and places to go here in Texas. One of my favorite places to go is about 4 hours south of our headquarters here in Cleburne. San Antonio should definitely be at the top of your list when you’re writing down vacations you’d like to take.
The Riverwalk
In Downtown San Antonio, there’s a unique attraction that snakes through the stores and restaurants. The Riverwalk is one of the prime attractions of this beautiful city. There are tons of restaurants, shops, and bars along the river that attract thousands of visitors every week. If you get lucky, you may catch an arts festival in progress, boasting local artisans and handmade crafts. This is truly an experience that you don’t want to miss. Boat tours can show you around and give you the history of the city and the Riverwalk itself. This is my personal favorite when I make the trip down there.
La Villita
Located on the south bank of the San Antonio River (the Riverwalk) is a historic art community. La Villita has many fine art galleries, souvenir shops, gift shops, custom jewelry, pottery, and imported Mexican folk art, as well as several restaurants within walking distance. If you’re a fan of Old World architecture, then this is the place to go. Come here during April and you’ll get the chance to experience Fiesta, the largest festival that takes place in the city. There are hundreds of events, performers, and booths to check out.
The Alamo
It looks smaller in person, that’s for sure. Nestled between a couple of businesses, is the most recognizable icon of the State of Texas: the Alamo. There’s hardly any historic place in Texas that elicits as many visitors as the Alamo does. You can take a guided tour of the grounds and see where everything happened from the history lessons you learned in school. The best part about it is it’s proximity to downtown. You could very easily see a true Texas landmark within walking distance from the Riverwalk.
Botanical Gardens
If you’re ready to get out of downtown and get back to nature, then the San Antonio Botanical Gardens is the place to do it. Lush gardens, bird-watching, movies in the park, and more! It’ll give you the perfect opportunity to spend some time in the sun and enjoy a picnic with the family.
Next time you’re brain-storming for new adventures with your RV, be sure to consider San Antonio and make the trip!
