Sanitizing Your RV’s Water System

How many times have you drawn a glass of water from your fresh water tank and thought, “there’s just something off here”? Now, many RVers don’t even think that you can really pull a glass of water from the tap, but not this one. In fact, did you know that fresh, drinkable, potable H2O doesn’t only come from bottled water, but can come right from your RV’s “fresh water” tank? Think of how much money and space you’ll be saving by just relying on your RV’s fresh water source for your drinkable  and potable water. Of course, in order to have a storage system for truly “fresh water” you have to thoroughly sanitize your RV’s water system. Now, this isn’t something that is hard to do, in fact, it’s quite easy. However, there are numerous steps involved to achieve successful fresh water tank sanitation.

Click on the video below for very clear and concise, step by step instructions on how you can perform this yourself:

Items you’ll need are:

  • 1 Gallon pitcher
  • measuring cup
  • bleach

As you’ll no doubt agree, having a well sanitized and clean fresh water tank on board your RV is a must have. The only way that you can guarantee its cleanliness is by tending to it routinely and thoroughly. It doesn’t take very much time for mold to start to develop, so I recommend that you do this process every 3 months or so. Some wait longer, some do it more often, 3 months is just a recommendation. Of course, if you’ve winterized your RV then there’s no need to really do that much. However, when your RV season starts back up, you are going to be thanking yourself that you’ve kept your fresh water tank bacteria free.

How often do you clean and sanitize your RV’s fresh water tank? Share with us on Facebook. Although we agree with the system described in the video, do you have any further recommendations? If you have any questions, or comments, don’t hesitate to give Fun Town RV a call!
